Eco-Lodge in Cambodia Forest for WWF
In August of 2008, the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) invited TEL to develop and cost a detailed project plan and designs for two scenarios of an eco tourism lodge in the Mondulkiri Protected Forest. TEL was also asked to compile a comprehensive projected costing of this infrastucture development and to conduct a preliminary Environmental Impact Assessmen (EIA). WWF Cambodia seeks to secure a community livelihood income generated through sustainable wildlife tourism - based on the long-term availability of key species, such as Asian elephant, tiger, gaur, wild water buffalo and endangered large water birds. For more information visit: http://www.panda.org/who_we_are/wwf_offices/cambodia/index.cfm?uProjectID=KH0864 High-value low-impact wildlife eco tourism had been identified as a means of securing the future of these species and their eco system through generating financing for conservation activities, supporting local livelihoods, and thus ensuring the financial sustainability of the protected area. For this TEL undertook the following: A literature review; To develop a thorough understanding of the situation and the possibilities for product development in the Mondulkiri Protected Forest, the existing documents about the protected area and (Eco) tourism in Cambodian context have to be consulted. Detailed Project Planning; In order to create project and construction plan, a visit to the site must be undertaken. This visit included: Complete Sketch designs: For the design of the eco-lodge it is preferred to make use of available local available resources as much as possible. For this the following steps should be undertaken: Report the outcomes of the visit: Based on the collected data and the visit to the site a report will be produced including the following: …in 23 days! TEL was proud to have been able to contirbute to this worthwhile effort of people-based conservation in one of the last true Wilderness areas on our planet.
