Archway Entrance Sundial

This is a found piece of Oak some 100 meters away from the entrance to a tented Camp in Cape Town. It was discovered while doing some explorations in the facinity of the Tented Camp during construction.

The idea was to create a natural “point of arrival” to the tented camp after a long days walk. This piece of Oak (a non-invasive alien) was carried to the start of the boardwalk and planted into the ground some 3 meters using a crane, and compacted with crushed stone and earth.

The shadows cast by the tip of the arch indicate times of arrival to hikers as well. This is interpreted to the hikers by the waiting camp guides.
